But with the new house I really wanted to feel like our family room was a place we could relax and be proud to entertain company in. Everyone who ever sits on our couches comments on how comfy they are...but up close and personal they are far from pretty thanks to tons of use and some pretty loose rules regarding food on the couch. In the end we decided that buying new would need to wait awhile so I opted for slip covers to spruce them up in the meantime.
And after lots and lots of looking and planning out the colors for our space, (see the whole room here if you are a new reader),
I decided that even though I was sick of how worn out our couches were looking, I actually didn't mind the color. I toyed with white...but the thought of freaking out every time someone put their foot in the couch was not appealing. We live on these couches and I wanted to keep it that way- not turn our room into a museum.
So here they were before hand. Trust me, if I zoomed in you'd see enough stains and crusty patches to make you think twice about sitting down.
And here's with the cover!
Not a huge difference, except they look a bit sleeker because the fabric slip cover is stretched over them instead of the old saggy upholstery. It is a sure-fit 2 piece slip cover designed for T cushion sofas (we have the identical one on our identical love seat). The color is a tiny bit more gold than brown- which I love as well.
And since I changed up the colors in this room quite a bit since our last house, I knew that I needed to change up the throw pillows, but was having the hardest time picking what I wanted. I finally found a few on Etsy that I loved, so we're off to a good start. I think I just need a few more to splash in some more colors- but I'm on the hunt for the perfect accent.
So this is how it stands for now!
My next project is figuring out this mantle/fireplace situation.
I threw a million things over there with the intention of editing down to my favorites and finding proper homes for everything else- and then just left it all like that for 2 months.
Maybe some day some of those photos will find their way up over our sofa on that huge empty blue wall!
