Keepin' it Clean

It's safe to say that the white art table that we bought last Christmas has definitely been a worthwhile investment. I will say that it's not perfect- one of the drawers is fighting me about staying on its track...but considering the number of hours every day that my kids sit there, I'm not surprised that it's had a bit of wear and tear.

It's shiny white perfection in table form- and I try to be pretty diligent about wiping it down on a regular basis to keep the surface white.
But, at some point I lost my better judgement about art supply purchases for my kids, and moved away from the washable crayola, to unbridled access to my paint box.

Paint of every variety and form of permanence.
What can I say, we love to paint!

So, when it's not covered in masterpieces in progress, it usually looks something like this.

Even after a pass with a wet rag and a regular multi purpose cleaner...still not white.

Whoops. I'm sure if I had cleaned this all up right away it would have been fine- but that doesn't always happen. And I had no idea that regular old pen would be the worst stain offender on this table.
The first time that I tried to wipe pen off the table, I almost had a heart attack because it Would. Not. Budge.

Enter my savior.

It's actually a hand cleaner, designed to remove grease and such for people who work on cars (years ago when my hubby owned a jeep, he needed this for after his garage tinkering). I don't know what made me try it on the table- but I have to tell you- it works miracles.

I wouldn't necessarily recommend it on a surface like wood, because it's a slightly abrasive pumice cleaner...but for this Ikea table- it cleans amazingly without scratching. Now my table can stay white!

Perfection.

And it lasted 3 whole minutes.
(Don't worry there is paper under the paint- for the most part)

  1. I wonder if that hand cleaner works for getting off super glue and caulk...
