This is my new purse.
This is my new purse next to my old purse for size comparison purposes.
Now, to be fair. In this photo my old purse was being used as an overnight bag, so it was stuffed to the brim. But, that's also kind of the point. If my old purse was capable of being used as an overnight bag, do I really need something that big to go to the grocery store?
I've finally graduated from the diaper bag period of my life. No one is in diapers. Nobody REALLY needs a snack every time we leave the house. I don't generally bring a change of clothes, or wet wipes, or toys with me when we leave the house. But yet I generally carry a bag large enough to hold a small animal if that need should ever arise.
The problem with such a big purse is that it collects junk, so I am always digging forever to find the one thing that I actually NEED out of its depths. Even my wallet is a huge overstuffed oversized mess full of rewards cards that I don't even need anyway because every store keeps your info in their computer system and can look you up via your phone number.
I've started to notice that more often than not I leave the house without my purse- just grabbing keys and stuffing my ID and a few bucks into my pocket. Or (if I'm being really honest), I leave the house with nothing except keys, and find myself without my phone, identification, or money- which, yes Mom, I know is not safe or responsible at all. Luckily there have not been any emergencies, but being too lazy to lug an awkward purse around is not a good excuse for being ill prepared for the worst case scenario.
So- new purse. It holds everything that I need, nothing that I don't need, and it's totally liberating (in addition to being cute and stylish). It's just one step in my ever ongoing process of trying to streamline and simplify my life.
What about you? Are you carrying around all kinds of baggage in your bag?

And the cute new purse fits neatly in your ginormous old purse, should the need arise (this is what I do). :)
ReplyDeleteI like the new purse! And I totally know what you mean about the oblivion of a large purse. I have a purse/laptop bag/plane carry on bag triple combo - it is dangerous. And I try to clean it out twice a week. And the worst part is that it needs to be cleaned out twice a week!! Good luck with things, and remembering your purse!
ReplyDelete(My big not remembering thing before I leave the house is deodorant, which for one summer resulted in me having at least 10 sticks of deodorant scattered around my life so that even if I forgot it before I left the house, I'd still have a backup plan. Sometimes it worked.)
