Arts and Crafts Camp

If you missed my intro to the Summer Camp Series, check it out here, and then come on back for what we're up to this week.

Week #1, Arts and Crafts Camp.

I'd be willing to bet there isn't a woman out there that didn't at one point contemplate taking up a new domestic hobby- such as knitting, sewing, painting, even scrapbooking...and then go out and buy a bunch of new supplies for this hobby, only to decide at some point down the line that it wasn't really anything of interest anymore.  I think I am guilty of attempting all of the hobbies I just mentioned, and I am rarely actively involved with any of them any more.

So- when you ditched the hobby, did you ditch the gear?
That's fine if you want to keep some stuff around in case you want to pick it up again at some point- but how does your storage look?  Do you have several half finished scarves or blankets that you will probably never finish knitting? How about half dried up paints and crusty paintbrushes?  Are all of your scrapbooking supplies perfectly organized? And if you're not actively participating in the hobby, do you really still need THAT much stuff for it?

I have two storage ottomans full of these hobby supplies, so my goal for this week is to try to make some progress on them- without spending any money on cute storage boxes...so we'll see!

Crafting with Kids
If you have kids, there is another easy option for this Arts and Crafts Camp- and that's to take a look at your kids' supplies.  I say it's "easy," because my plan is just to get ALL of the junk out and let the kids go wild on one last big messy project- with the intention of using up all of the almost empty paint, glitter and glue bottles.  We have so much stuff that is ALMOST gone- I just need to let them use it and be done with it.   I'm recycling all of the used up coloring books, throwing out the dried up playdoh and markers without caps,  and what's left is going to go neatly back into the spaces I have allocated for kiddo art crap.

This project doesn't have to be a crazy "before and after makeover," or an excercise in fabulousity. (Although feel free to make that happen if you are so inclined!) I just know that I personally needed a little motivation to tackle some purge projects that I've been neglecting- so this is your chance to play along and at least tidy a small corner or throw a few crafty things away :)

  1. I discarded all my knitting stuff but I love hte idea of having kids do 1 big project! It'd be a great way to use all the half-used supplies-genius. It's like eating 1 meal of all the random leftovers from the week :)
